F.G.C.K-Gitura _ 23th Dec 2018

SPEAKER:Mama Shiru Githinji

Theme:Waiting upon the Lord

Readings 2 kings 7:1-20

2 Kings:7.1
Elisha said, "Hear the word of the LORD. This is what the LORD says: About this time tomorrow, a seah of flour will sell for a shekel and two seahs of barley for a shekel at the gate of Samaria."

2 Kings:7.17
Now the king had put the officer on whose arm he leaned in charge of the gate, and the people trampled him in the gateway, and he died, just as the man of God had foretold when the king came down to his house.

2 Kings:7.18
It happened as the man of God had said to the king: "About this time tomorrow, a seah of flour will sell for a shekel and two seahs of barley for a shekel at the gate of Samaria."

2 Kings:7.19
The officer had said to the man of God, "Look, even if the LORD should open the floodgates of the heavens, could this happen?" The man of God had replied, "You will see it with your own eyes, but you will not eat any of it!"

2 Kings:7.20
And that is exactly what happened to him, for the people trampled him in the gateway, and he died.

WEALTH WISDOM

Wealth is not created by spending what you earn, but by investing what you keep. It involves distinguishing between temporary desires and lasting assets, and exercising patience to allow your money to grow. This is achieved by making your future self's prosperity a greater priority than your present self's comfort.

Delay immediate gratification

Understanding that what feels urgent today may become optional tomorrow.
✔ When you feel a strong urge to buy something new, wait 30 days before purchasing
✔ Ask yourself: "Will this purchase still feel important to me in one year?"
✔ Practice distinguishing between true needs and temporary social pressure
✔ Write down your immediate wants and review them after one month—see which still matter
✔ Celebrate when you successfully wait out a temporary desire without acting on it

Invest before you spend

Making your financial future the first priority, not the last.
✔ Automatically transfer a percentage of every dollar you receive into investment accounts
✔ Treat your investment transfer as a non-negotiable bill that must be paid first
✔ Start with whatever amount you can, even if it's small—the habit matters most
✔ Increase your investment percentage with every raise or bonus you receive
✔ Track how your invested money grows over time to reinforce the habit

Distinguish assets from liabilities

Learning to identify what builds wealth versus what drains it.
✔ Before any major purchase, ask: "Will this put money in my pocket or take money out?"
✔ Recognize that many status symbols (luxury cars, expensive clothes) are liabilities, not assets
✔ Focus on acquiring income-generating assets first, before acquiring luxury items
✔ Calculate the true total cost of ownership for any major purchase, including maintenance and depreciation
✔ Prioritize investments that appreciate in value or generate passive income

Transform social pressure into financial discipline

Using others' expectations as motivation to build real wealth instead of visible consumption.
✔ When you feel pressure to "keep up," redirect that energy into your investment plan
✔ Understand that true confidence comes from financial security, not from visible spending
✔ Surround yourself with people who value financial wisdom over flashy displays
✔ Take pride in living below your means while building substantial assets
✔ Let your investment statements, not your possessions, become your source of pride

Let your money teach you patience

Discovering that delayed rewards often bring greater satisfaction than instant purchases.
✔ Start a small investment and watch it grow—let this process teach you patience
✔ Notice how the excitement of watching investments grow often surpasses the thrill of shopping
✔ Document how your feelings about a desired purchase change over time
✔ Celebrate financial milestones that come from patience and discipline
✔ Share your investment successes with family to inspire wiser financial thinking

Learn from financial mentors

Seeking wisdom from those who have built lasting wealth, not just visible wealth.
✔ Identify mentors who have achieved financial independence through smart decisions
✔ Ask questions about their journey—what they sacrificed early and what they gained later
✔ Study stories of people who built wealth gradually versus those who spent lavishly
✔ Observe how truly wealthy people often live modestly while building substantial assets
✔ Apply one piece of financial wisdom from a mentor to your own life each month

Build for legacy, not appearance

Creating wealth that lasts generations rather than spending for temporary approval.
✔ Define what true wealth means to you beyond material possessions
✔ Consider how your financial decisions today will affect your family's future
✔ Balance enjoying today with securing tomorrow—aim for 80% security, 20% enjoyment
✔ Teach these principles to the next generation through stories and practical lessons
✔ Measure your success by your net worth and financial peace, not by your visible consumption

FAITHFUL FOUNDATIONS

Our faith rests not in our circumstances but in the unwavering character of God, whose nature is perfect faithfulness. It involves looking to Him through every trial, trusting His timing, and holding fast to His promises. This is achieved by anchoring our identity in His truth and allowing His Word to shape our perspective and renew our hope.

Look to Him in every circumstance

Choosing to fix our eyes on God's character when situations appear bleak.
✔ Remember that God is actively keeping you strong and will sustain you to the end
✔ Trust that His faithfulness is your anchor, regardless of the turmoil around you
✔ Practice looking to Him daily—your face will reflect His radiance, not your shame
✔ Believe that deliverance is His promise, even amidst many troubles
✔ Recall Joseph’s story: the pit was not his end, but a passage to purpose

Don't let the pit destroy your destiny

Protecting your purpose and truth while in a season of trial or waiting.
✔ Understand that the pit is meant to strengthen you, not to be your comfort zone
✔ Guard your dreams, choices, and God-given purpose from dying in despair
✔ Hold on to His promise: weeping may last for a night, but joy comes in the morning
✔ Refuse to let temporary suffering redefine your eternal identity
✔ Allow the trial to deepen your dependence on God, not diminish your hope

Trust that God has the final word

Resting in the certainty that His promises are yes and amen.
✔ Stand on the truth that God’s word never returns empty—it always accomplishes His purpose
✔ Believe that He is not like man—He does not lie, change His mind, or break a promise
✔ Declare that your situation is subject to His word, not the other way around
✔ Embrace your identity as a new creation in Christ—the old has gone, the new has come
✔ Wait with expectancy: God’s perfect faithfulness ensures your turnaround

Anchor in His unchanging nature

Building your life on the rock of God's consistent and reliable character.
✔ Base your confidence on who God is, not on how you feel or what you see
✔ Return to Scripture daily to remind yourself of His proven faithfulness throughout history
✔ Reject the fear of abandonment—His presence and favor last a lifetime
✔ Pray with boldness, knowing that the One who called you is utterly dependable
✔ Let your peace come from His perfection, not from perfect circumstances

Walk in renewed identity

Living from the truth of who you are in Christ, not from your past or present struggles.
✔ Daily affirm: “I am a new creation. The old is gone, the new has come.”
✔ Let your actions flow from your identity in Him, not from your pain or past
✔ Forgive as you have been forgiven; love as you have been loved
✔ Speak life and promise over your situation, aligning your words with His Word
✔ Move forward in confidence—not because your path is easy, but because your God is faithful

DIGITAL SCAM ALERT

This is a well-documented online recruitment scam targeting job seekers in Kenya. It involves fake web hosting and digital marketing companies promising unrealistic earnings for minimal work, then charging upfront fees for "training" that never leads to actual employment. This is identified by recognizing the specific red flags and language patterns common to these fraudulent operations.

Red flag: unsolicited opportunity

Genuine employers don't randomly message strangers with income promises.
✔ Be wary of any business opportunity that contacts you first without your application
✔ Real companies have formal recruitment processes, not WhatsApp negotiations
✔ Remember: if it sounds too good to be true (Ksh 20,000-30,000 monthly for part-time), it is
✔ Legitimate digital marketing jobs require proven skills, not just "ambition"
✔ Verify any company through the official Business Registration Service database

Red flag: vague business description

Scam operations use generic terms without specific details or verifiable clients.
✔ Note the lack of company name, registration number, or physical office address
✔ Question why a "web hosting company" needs untrained affiliate marketers
✔ Real companies provide specific service examples and client portfolios
✔ The mention of an "E-learning Platform" without details is a common filler
✔ Genuine businesses have professional websites, not just WhatsApp communication

Red flag: mandatory paid training

Legitimate employers invest in training employees, not charge them.
✔ Know that no reputable company charges applicants for job training
✔ The Ksh 200 "registration fee" is the real objective—collected from many victims
✔ The excuse about "people taking advantage of free offers" is a standard scam justification
✔ Real training includes proper materials, not just "notebook and pen" requirements
✔ Professional businesses conduct interviews before investing time in training anyone

Red flag: pressure and manufactured urgency

Scammers create false scarcity to bypass your critical thinking.
✔ Notice how messages escalate quickly from introduction to payment requirement
✔ The specific training schedule (Tues/Thurs/Sat) suggests a high-volume operation
✔ The "neatly dressed" requirement mimics legitimate interviews to appear authentic
✔ The venue description ("4th floor opposite Equity Bank") adds false legitimacy
✔ Real companies don't need to prove they're "serious" by charging fees

Red flag: inconsistent communication patterns

Scam operations have identifiable messaging patterns across different victims.
✔ The message sequence follows a predictable pattern: hook → promise → fee
✔ The WhatsApp-only communication avoids creating paper trails
✔ The trainer's name isn't provided in the venue information
✔ No follow-up information about what happens after training
✔ The income promise is intentionally vague about actual work required

Protective action steps

How to respond safely and protect yourself from this scam.
✔ Do not send any money or share personal information
✔ Report the number to WhatsApp and local authorities
✔ Search the phone number online—you'll likely find scam reports
✔ Block the number to prevent further contact
✔ Share this information with friends and family to protect others

Legitimate opportunity indicators

How to identify real digital marketing and affiliate opportunities.
✔ Real companies have verifiable websites with detailed "About" and "Contact" pages
✔ Legitimate affiliate programs (like Amazon Associates) are free to join
✔ Genuine digital marketing jobs require portfolios or proof of skills
✔ Actual training is provided after hiring, not as a paid prerequisite
✔ Transparent income structures show exactly how commissions are earned

Remember: Your ambition is valuable. Don't let scammers exploit your desire for legitimate income. Real online opportunities exist, but they require skill development and careful verification. Start by learning digital skills through free platforms like Google Digital Skills for Africa, Coursera, or YouTube tutorials from verified educators. Build a portfolio, then apply through official company websites—not WhatsApp messages from strangers.

TRANSFORMATION JOURNEY

Transformation is not a passive event, but an active journey of encountering truth and realigning one's life. It involves a radical shift in identity, purpose, and action, often born from divine interruption. It is achieved through surrender, a renewed mind, and a willing heart that steps into a new path despite a contradictory past.

The encounter with truth

Experiencing a moment of revelation that exposes a misguided path and offers a new direction.
✔ Recognize when your current actions, however zealous, are opposing a greater purpose
✔ Be open to divine interruption, even when it comes in unexpected or disruptive ways
✔ Listen for the voice of truth, even when it questions your deepest convictions
✔ Ask, "Who are you, Lord?" when faced with a reality that challenges your understanding
✔ Accept that transformation often begins with being humbled and brought to a point of surrender

The surrender of identity

Letting go of an old self to receive a new name and a new purpose.
✔ Release your former identity, even if it was built on passion, authority, or religious zeal
✔ Accept the new name and mission given to you, even if it seems contrary to your past
✔ Stop fighting against the very purpose you were created for
✔ Understand that God’s call often comes to those actively working against it
✔ Embrace the paradox: your greatest weakness or opposition can become the platform for your purpose

The change in direction

Making a decisive turn from a destructive path to a life-giving mission.
✔ Immediately stop the harmful actions you once thought were right
✔ Be willing to be led, even when you cannot see the full path ahead
✔ Accept that your transformation will confuse and even threaten those who knew your old life
✔ Step into your new calling without waiting for everyone’s approval or understanding
✔ Understand that your past does not disqualify you—it becomes the testimony of your change

The new community

Finding fellowship and support among those you once opposed.
✔ Be prepared for the community you persecuted to become your new family
✔ Submit to the guidance of faithful people you previously disregarded
✔ Allow others to help you navigate your new identity and calling
✔ Recognize that your story will bring encouragement and credibility to the very group you harmed
✔ Understand that true fellowship is built on shared transformation, not shared pasts

The unfolding purpose

Walking into a destiny far greater than your own plans or understanding.
✔ Accept that God’s plan for you is greater and different from what you imagined
✔ Be an instrument for good to the very people you intended to harm
✔ Preach the message you once tried to silence
✔ Understand that your suffering and opposition will be used to strengthen others
✔ Know that you are chosen not in spite of your past, but because your transformation will display ultimate power and grace

SPIRIT OF OBEDIENCE

Obedience is not a passive submission but an active alignment of human will with divine purpose. It involves daily surrender, discerning the voice of God over competing influences, and trusting in a higher wisdom. It is achieved through prayerful discipline, scriptural grounding, and the constant renewal of the mind to walk in covenant faithfulness.

Recognizing The Spirit Of Disobedience

Identifying the spiritual force that leads humanity away from divine alignment and into idolatry.
✔ Acknowledge that a spirit of disobedience actively works to turn hearts from God
✔ Recognize when your choices flow from self-will rather than God's revealed will
✔ Understand that disobedience is not just action—it is a posture of the heart
✔ Learn from Israel's cycle of idolatry, judgment, and cry for deliverance
✔ Identify the modern "idols" that compete for your worship and loyalty

Understanding The Consequences

Seeing the direct, spiritual cause and effect outlined in scripture for turning away from God.
✔ Know that forsaking God provokes His righteous anger and removes His protective hand
✔ See that disobedience leads to spiritual captivity and defeat, as in Judges 2:14-15
✔ Accept that God may hand people over to the consequences of their own desires (Romans 1:24)
✔ Realize that God’s wrath is revealed against wickedness that suppresses truth (Romans 1:18)
✔ Remember that every person will reap the wages of their spiritual choices

Embracing The Heart Of Obedience

Cultivating a surrendered will that chooses God's way above all other voices.
✔ Model Abraham’s radical obedience—the willingness to surrender even what is most precious
✔ Trust that God's plans are for your prosperity, hope, and future (Jeremiah 29:11)
✔ Believe that obedience is the highway to receiving God's promised blessings
✔ Choose daily to worship God alone, forsaking all other "gods" of status, wealth, or approval
✔ Let obedience flow from love and gratitude, not fear or obligation

Repenting And Returning

Practicing the biblical pattern of repentance that restores relationship with God.
✔ Follow Israel’s pattern: cry out to God in your distress, as in Judges 2:16
✔ Turn away from idols and wickedness that darken the heart and mind
✔ Receive God's forgiveness and the raising up of "judges"—deliverers He sends
✔ Allow distress to drive you back to God, not deeper into rebellion
✔ Break the cycle of disobedience by humbling yourself and seeking God’s face

Walking In Covenant Faithfulness

Living in consistent alignment with God’s character and commands.
✔ Let your knowledge of God lead to worship and thanksgiving, not spiritual darkness
✔ Honor God with your body and choices, refusing the impurity that comes from a rejected heart
✔ Stand firm against the enemies of your soul, knowing God fights for the obedient
✔ Fill your mind with truth so you can discern and resist the spirit of this world
✔ Align your desires with God’s, so He does not have to give you over to your own

Trusting God’s Higher Purpose

Believing that God withholds no good thing from those who walk uprightly.
✔ Understand that God may withhold certain blessings if He knows they would turn your heart from Him
✔ Trust that His plans are always for your ultimate good, even when obedience is costly
✔ Wait with hope, knowing His timing is perfect and His promises are sure
✔ See obedience as the path to true freedom, not restriction
✔ Live with the assurance that God rewards those who diligently seek Him in faithfulness

FINANCIAL FOUNDATION ACTIONS

Financial freedom is the daily practice of aligning your actions with your long-term vision through simple, consistent systems. It involves ...
