Prayers and mission 25 Feb 2018 Sunday service

Theme: Prayers  and missions by Cynthia Maingi.

Missions means sending.
Jesus to the end declared that its finished for his mission had been Accomplished.
Christ reconciled human back to Go7-8
This was his mission and purpose on this earth.
At the cross what happened,  the vail was torn.  We who was not sinful became sin for our reconciliation to God and the relationship with God be restored.

As my father had sent me so I send you therefore we are called to continue with the mission of reconciliation.

Types of missions
Missions and evangelism
Visiting the sick
Helping the needy

What are we to talk about in mission??
What to do in missions??
Main agenda is to preach Jesus Christ
We gather together since we have a common agenda in common faith.
We got this common thing in Christianity by someone giving a word to you about Jesus Christ.
Through hearing about Jesus Christ you believed that he existed.
You confessed that Jesus Christ is lord and savior.
Through the confession your were transformed to the kingdom of God.
That which the lord did to you and a person told you of Jesus Christ is the same thing Jesus expects of you

We are supposed to preach the gospel to them who have
Gospel is news that the righteous one Jesus did for us,  that now there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus..
We also received power and authority over everything just as the apostles of Christ the had in themselves.

Repent and keep the gospel fierly.

=>> Matthew 10:7-8

Go preach,  kingdom of God is at Hand
Heal the sick
Cleanse the leper
Raise the dead
Cast out devil
Freely you received give freely

Why should we pray before during and after the missions?
For us to keep connect to the will of the father,  the great agenda of Christ.

=>>Galatians 5:19-23
The works of the fresh. .
Will not inherit the kingdom of God
The fruit of the spirit is the law.

Pray to avoid frustrations
In mission ground its not easy to change the mind of the children in the darkness,  there is still need of prayer of those people
You must be the light to them.

=>> Romans 8:18-23
Give a hope unto them,  release them from the bondages and pains they have been subjected to.

JOIN THIS CHARIOT

*“JOIN THIS CHARIOT (A Classic On Soul Winning)”*
by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome D.Sc., D.D.

*CHAPTER ONE: JOIN THE CHARIOT*

*“And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert. And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship, Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet. Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth: In his humiliation his judgement was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? For His life is taken from the earth. And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? Of himself, or of some other man? Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: And the eunuch said, see, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptised? And Philip said, if thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptised him. And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. But Philip was found in Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Caeserea” (Acts 8:26-40).*

The Holy Ghost told Philip to go to the desert place, and Philip, not questioning the command, went immediately. When he got there he waited for further instructions. And the word came, “Go near and join thyself to this chariot.” The chariot was on its way and Philip was waiting on God, not knowing what the next step should be. Then God said, “Go near and join thyself to this chariot.”

Why did God instruct Philip to join himself to the chariot? What was so important about the chariot? After all, God was not planning to help Philip on his journey by means of the chariot, because God proved shortly after that He could do without a chariot (Acts 8:39-40). So what is the importance of the chariot in this verse of Scripture? God wants us to take special note of this account of an event in Philip’s life and He specifically wants us to know about the chariot, because it is the key to this verse that will allow any man to live in this same Scripture in other generations to come.

Hence, we need to know what the chariot stands for. The words of Scripture were carefully chosen by the Holy Spirit to communicate deep truths to God’s children. God has said though heaven and earth pass away, His Word will remain (Matthew 24:35). So in every generation, God’s Word remains pure, powerful, steadfast and effective, and we can build our lives on it today. That is the element in the Word of God that makes it relevant to us today. Therefore, what God wanted Philip to note, He also wants us to note.

*Chariots!*

Chariots represent the vehicles of life, and the word ‘vehicle’ here does not only refer to cars, buses and airplanes. There are different types of chariots. Some carry your body like the airplane, while some others carry your ideas, talents, skills and character. A vehicle is that which provides for you an avenue of expression, physically, mentally or in any other way. It brings you in contact with other people, and to some extent defines your scope of contact. Hence, there are business and professional vehicles. If you work in a bank, the bank is your vehicle. If you are a student, your school is your vehicle for as long as you are a student. These are the vehicles of life.

So when the Holy Spirit said to Philip, “Go near and join thyself to this chariot,” He was speaking that day of a particular vehicle. Today, you are in a chariot; where you work, school or do business is that chariot. In that chariot, you have to associate with people, express your convictions, and let your ideas come forth. When you grasp this truth, your life will take on a new meaning.

What God seeks to bring to our attention as Christians is that He wants us to be in places where He can give value to people’s lives through the expression of His life in us. *The gospel of Jesus Christ is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes it (Romans 1:16).* By placing us in different areas of life, thus bringing us in contact with the peoples of the world, God wants us to bear witness of this gospel and share its goodness with others. This is the purpose of the chariot.

After the instruction from God, *“Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him” (Acts 8:30-31).*

Another thing to note is this: though God instructed Philip to go and join himself to the chariot, Philip did not go there and say, “Hello, God sent me here to this chariot?” That would have been a very wrong approach, because the chariot did not belong to him. He understood that God’s target was not the Ethiopian’s chariot; there was something more important on God’s mind.

Remember what the Lord Jesus said: *“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field” (Matthew 13:44).* What was more important to the man was the treasure in the field, and not the whole field. In the same way, there was a treasure in the chariot that was more important to God; the eunuch was the treasure in the chariot. That was the reason God wanted Philip in the chariot; He knew Philip would recognize the treasure, so He sent him to join himself to the chariot.

When Philip got there, he did not stare in admiration at the beauty of the chariot; rather he went for the treasure in the chariot. The chariot would definitely have been very colourful and beautiful, since the Ethiopian eunuch was a man of great authority, but that did not get Philip’s attention. He was after the treasure. God could trust him to know the difference between the real and the shadow.

Can God send you to a chariot and believe that you will not go out there just for the chariot but for the real treasure in the chariot? Souls of men are very vital to God and you should be like-minded. God trusted Philip that he would do what He wanted him to do in the chariot. Let God trust you too.

The preaching of the gospel is committed to our trust; it is not optional. It is not only for the evangelist like we have thought in the past; we have even taught this in the Church. We expect pastors to be the ones preaching because we don’t have much time due to our business. But this is wrong. God already sent you into a chariot, this is why you are on the job. Don’t get so busy that you don’t notice the treasure in the chariot. Your office is your chariot. You may say that everybody in your office is a Christian, but this does not make any difference, you must share the gospel.

You must work hard to remain in the chariot God has sent you to join. If you are careless on the job, that will not be a good testimony and you may have to leave the job if you don’t improve. Whether it is your private business or not, if you are out of business, you are out of the chariot. So you must do well in your job or business because it keeps you in the business chariot and you can keep on winning people to Christ.

THANK YOU GOD FOR EVERYTHING

There was a bird who lived in a desert, very sick, no feathers, nothing to eat and drink, no shelter to live in. One day a dove was passing by, so the sick unhappy bird stopped the dove and inquired "where are you going?" it replied " I am going to heaven".

So the sick bird said "please find out for me, when my suffering will  come to an end?" The dove said, "sure, I will." and bid a good bye to the sick bird. The dove reached heaven and shared the message of the sick bird with the angel incharge at the entrance gate.
The angel said, "For the next seven years of its life the bird has to suffer like this, no happiness till then."

The dove said, "When the sick bird hears this he will get disheartened. could you suggest any solution for this."

The Angel replied, "Tell him to recite this verse "Thank you God for everything." The dove on meeting the sick bird again,  delivered the message of the angel to it .

After seven days the dove was passing again passing by and saw that bird was very happy, feathers grew on his body, a small plant grew up in the desert area, a small pond of water was also there, the bird was singing and dancing cheerfully. The dove was astonished. The Angel had said that there would be no happiness for the bird for the next seven years. With this question in mind the dove went to visit the angel at heaven's gate.

The dove put forth his query to the Angel. The Angel replied, "yes it is true there was no happiness for the bird for seven years but because the bird was reciting the verse "THANK YOU GOD FOR EVERYTHING"  in every situation, his life changed.

When the bird fell down on the hot sand it said "THANK YOU GOD FOR EVERYTHING"

When it could not fly it said, "THANK YOU GOD FOR EVERYTHING"

When it was thirsty and there was no water around, it said, "THANK YOU GOD FOR EVERYTHING"

Whatever the situation, the bird kept on repeating, "THANK YOU GOD FOR EVERYTHING" and therefore the seven years got dissolved in seven days.

When I heard this story, I felt a tremendous shift in my way of feeling, thinking, accepting and viewing life.

I adopted this verse in my life. WHATEVER the situation I faced I started reciting this verse "THANK YOU GOD FOR EVERYTHING". It helped me to shift my view from what i did not have to what i have in my life.

For instance; if my head pains I THANK GOD that the rest of my body is completely fine and healthy and I notice that the headache does not bother me at all.

In the same manner i started using this verse in my relationships (whether family, friends, neighbours, colleagues ) finances, social life, business and everything with which I can relate. I shared this story with everyone I came in touch with and it brought a great shift in their behaviour too.

This simple verse really had a deep impact on my life, i started feeling how blessed I am, how happy I am, how good life is.

The purpose of sharing this message is to make all of us aware of how powerful the attitude of gratitude is. It can reshape our lives.
Lets recite this verse continuously to experience the shift in our life.

So be grateful, and see the change in your attitude.

Be humble, and you will never stumble.

*20 BENEFITS OF FASTING*

*20 BENEFITS OF FASTING*
*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*

Its that time of the year again. _*(PRAY  &   FAST)*_

1. Fasting is the strongest sign of humility before God. If you can't eat coz of God then you are humble.

2. Fasting is the fastest way to build up your anointing (power). The more you fast the more the anointing.

3. Fasting desciplines the flesh and it's carnal desires.

4. Fasting sharpens your inner man(your man). You become very sensitive in the spirit. You sense things before they happen. When your leader says let's buy a bus for the church don't become a problem because you have already picked it in spirit. When they say let's build the church you happily contribute easily because you have already picked it in your inner man.

5. Fasting enables the content of your inner man to be released upon your generation. You become a blessing not only to your family but your generation.

6. Fasting turns you into another man and kills pride.

7. Fasting renews your anointing(God's power on you).

8. Fasting is a law of faith. It increases your faith (Matt 7:21). Those who rarely fast have a problem to believe for big things. Always argumentative. To them everything is difficult.

9. Fasting raises your faith to a level higher than just ordinary prayers do. This means there are certain breakthroughs which can only happen when you fast. Mark 9:29 "..this kind can only come out by prayer and fasting".

10. It quickens your spiritual ears and opens your spiritual eyes to see the unseen. You become prophetic. Prophecy and fasting are friends.

11. It's a quick way to maintain good health. It makes you look sweet 16.

12. Fasting can destroy many diseases in your body.

13. Pharmacists say that fasting increases blood flow. It helps your veins and arteries. It heals hypertension. No bp.

14. Fasting can help control menstrual flow in women.

15. Fasting provokes peace of mind and assurance of victory, which translates into long life at the end.

16. Fasting heals obesity and diabetes.

17. Fasting breaks bad habits like smoking. You have a bad habit like smoking, anger, drunkenness, sniffing etc. You can ask God in fasting and all this will disappear by the blood of Jesus Christ.

18. Fasting gives you uncommon laughter and paralysé your enemies. Psalm 68:1. They be busy talking about you. They cry in secret while you progress.

19. Fasting takes you to your next phase of life, business, career etc. Are you tired of where you are? Take the route of fasting.

20. Fasting brings unusual success in your life, family etc. It also makes things to happen so quick eg marriage breakthrough, healing, job, overcoming nightmares etc.

Chastity champagne #Day5 *WINNING THE FONDLING TEMPTATION*

#Day5
*WINNING THE FONDLING TEMPTATION*

In order to beat the temptation of fondling a person who is not yet your spouse, you need to follow a simple step: never get into a confined space alone with a person of the opposite sex not yet our spouse and lock yourself in. This simple practical step will save you from the temptation to have the kind of physical intimacy with that person and thereby displease the Lord.

Billy Graham writes in his book, Just As I Am, about how he refused to meet with Hillary Clinton in private but insisted that they sit in front of others in a restaurant and meet.  Here are the exact words he used in reply to Hillary Clinton's request, "I would be delighted to. But I don't have private luncheons with beautiful ladies. We could sit in the middle of the dining room at the Capital Hotel where everybody would be able to see us, and still have a private conversation." He was in his seventies when this particular incident happened! Billy Graham certainly understood all what the scripture said about physical intimacy limits with a member of the opposite sex! Thank you for the example, Billy Graham!

After having read so far,  you could say this: "I have already been intimate physically with a boy who is not a believer. What should I do now? If I break up with him at this point, he will never marry me!" You know what? That is your golden opportunity to just do that and break up with him.

By doing that, you will please the Lord whose Word clearly teaches that believers must marry those who are already believers (I Cor 7:36-39 and II Cor 6:14). Any boy (or girl) who keeps touching you the wrong way cannot be a true, practicing believer.  By marrying the person who is constantly trying to be physically intimate with you before marriage, you will convert your single sin into double sin. So why do it? Quit that damaging relationship.

Come to Jesus. He died for you on the cross so that he can wash away your sin. He was beaten in His sinless body for the sins of your body – including the sin of allowing the opposite gender to fondle you, before marriage (I Pet 2:24). Though your sins are blood red, they will become white as snow when you ask Jesus to cleanse you (Isa 1:18). You will be pure in His eyes and that is what counts!

Sermon: The Resurrection Changes Everything - Luke

Sermon: The Resurrection Changes Everything - Luke

by Chip Dean

Scriptures: Luke 24:13-49

Connection to unit theme

Jesus is the risen King who is victorious over death, recognized by His disciples, validated by Scripture, and enthroned over all creation. That truth changes our faith, theology, and life. The resurrection also changes our practical living. The resurrection isn't just a doctrine to believe, but a truth should change our behavior. Luke 24 addresses this as well.

Introduction idea

Think about the most famous person who died recently, someone whose death made every newspaper and television news broadcast. Imagine a few days later as you watch your favorite news station, a breaking news alert interrupts. The anchor explains that this famous person has come back to life! The nation is in shock. As you change the channel, you discover this news is the subject on every station. You go to work and everyone is talking about it. You browse the internet, and everyone is posting and blogging about it. This is monumental. This is impossible. This has never happened before! Or has it?

If we aren't in awe of the resurrection of Jesus as a historical event, we may only see it as a fairytale. The resurrection is scientifically impossible, but historically true. The resurrection is history-making, earth-shaking, life-transforming, and eternity-changing truth. You may believe it, but do you understand how it changes your life? You may comprehend the theology behind it, but has it yet changed your behavior? Luke 24 shows us how Jesus' resurrection does this.

I. Jesus' resurrection changes our conversations (Luke 24:13-24)

Two of Jesus' disciples walk together down a seven-mile stretch of road, having a conversation. It was about the resurrection of Jesus, obviously the most shocking news they had ever heard. A stranger began to walk with them (Jesus incognito), and they were astounded to learn this man had apparently not heard about the resurrection. Notice that their conversation wasn't just about the details of the resurrection, but also about who He was supposed to be, His life, His death, and what it all meant.

Application: The truth of the resurrection is just as shocking today as it was the day it occurred. Don't treat the resurrection as some cold truth you've always heard. Do not allow your understanding and presentation of the gospel to be about the death of Jesus alone. Let Jesus' resurrection change your conversation. Talk about it this week with the same excitement as if it just happened.

II. Jesus' resurrection changes our Bible study (Luke 24:25-44)

Staying in stealth mode with His two disciples, Jesus "the stranger" called them a couple of fools and began a Bible study during the journey. If there were any conversation in history you would want to overhear, this would be the one. Jesus walked the men through the entire Old Testament to tell them how it all refers to Him, His death and suffering, and His resurrection and glory (24:27, 44). He began with the books of Moses (the Pentateuch) and led them through the Prophets (ending with Malachi). This was the best Bible study ever! The Old Testament promised and prophesied the whole point: Jesus' resurrection.

Application: Study your Bible with the resurrection in mind. Watch how God takes his people through good-as-dead experiences, such as Isaac's sacrifice, Joseph's imprisonment, and Daniel's den of lions. God loves to orchestrate scenes that point forward to the resurrection of Jesus while leaving the greatest glory for the resurrection itself. In your personal devotions, family Bible studies, Sunday school classes, small group sessions, age-based ministries, and group Bible studies, be aware of the resurrection theme running throughout Scripture.

III. Jesus' resurrection changes our witness (Luke 24:45-49)

As Jesus revealed His true identity to His disciples, He taught them a very important truth. His gospel presentation explains how their lives will change because of that truth. "Repentance and forgiveness should be proclaimed in His name to all nations, beginning with Jerusalem" (24:47). Don't miss this - repentance does not just mean to turn away from sin. That is only part of the truth. Repentance also means turning to Jesus. Forgiveness means that God will not hold His judgment against us for our sin because Jesus has been judged in our place. "Nations" means that there is not one person on earth who does not need to hear about the gospel of salvation through Jesus.

Application: Repentance and forgiveness should not be whispered, muttered, or mumbled. Witnessing lost people turn from their sin and to Jesus is a joy. Telling sinners who feel the weight, guilt, and shame of their sin about Jesus should be our pleasure. Jesus says that repentance and forgiveness are to be proclaimed because this is the news that people are dying to hear. The nations are looking for ways to relieve their guilt and shame for sin that only the gospel can bring. Let the resurrection change your witness by proclaiming its truth.

Conclusion idea

Imagine our country being attacked on our own soil. The invading military wipes out all forms of communication. Our military forces strategize together and strike hard against this enemy. After a long, difficult battle, our military wins the war. Communication has not yet been reestablished. You are assigned to an elite team of messengers that spreads the word that we are no longer slaves and captives of our enemy. Do you go out embarrassed, quietly muttering about victory and freedom? No, you proclaim it! Jesus told His disciples that it is our joyous task to proclaim God's offering of repentance and forgiveness through Jesus Christ.

Sermon: Snakebite: The Judgment of Sin and the Cross of Christ

Sermon: Snakebite: The Judgment of Sin and the Cross of Christ

by Chip Dean

Scriptures: Numbers 21:4-9John 3:14-15

Connection to unit theme

Jesus is the suffering Messiah, the sacrificial Lamb, and the self-giving King. In this passage, Jesus overcomes the curse of death by the power of His self-sacrifice.

Introduction idea

Could you imagine living in a country during an epidemic that killed at least one-third of the population? This didn't just happen to one nation, but an entire continent. In the 14th century, the Black (Bubonic) Plague swept across Europe killing an estimated 75 million people. Some historians believe this may have totaled up to two-thirds of the population. It is said that sailing ships would run aground with all the crew dead because the Plague wiped out everyone on board.

If that situation sounds bad, we are all actually in a worse one. We just may not be aware of it. We are all infected with a deadly disease that will ultimately take our lives. This disease is called sin. This pandemic will not only claim our physical lives, but will also doom us in eternity if we don't receive the cure. This passage provides a clear picture of the disease we're all struggling with, and the remedy to ultimately cure the disease.

I. God judges all sin with death (Num. 21:4-9)

As the nation of Israel traveled through the wilderness during their exodus from Egypt, they became impatient and lashed out at God and Moses. "Why has God brought us out into the wilderness to die when He told us He was going to save us? What kind of a God doesn't give His children food or water?" They were tired, sore, and furious. Because of their complaining, God judged them by sending fiery serpents that bit the people, killing many (21:6). The text also says that the snakes are fiery serpents. Historians are not quite sure what this means. Fiery is often a term used in biblical language for the judgment of God, but it could also be a type of snake that might have the capabilities of an ancient "fire-breathing dragon." No matter what, it was a bad day for Israel.

The people finally humbled themselves before God. They asked Moses to intervene for them. So Moses prayed, and God replied with some unusual instructions. God told Moses to make a serpent and set it on a pole. Whoever looked to the serpent would live.

Application: Does God's punishment in this passage seem unfair drastic? Adam and Eve took fruit that God forbade them to eat. By doing so, the whole world fell into sin. Might God have overreacted? Sin is not just doing something bad, but disobeying and disbelieving our Creator-God. Sin isn't just about what we do, but Whom we do it against. Adam and Even believed and obeyed Satan instead of God. The Israelites doubted God's goodness. What about your sin? Do you trivialize it, minimize it, or excuse it?

II. God cures all sin with the gospel (John 3:14-15)

Jesus told Nicodemus, "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him may have eternal life" (John 3:14-15). God healed the Israelites of serpent-venom as they looked at the bronze serpent on the pole. In the same way, if we believe in the death of Christ as He was lifted up on the cross for our sin, we will be spiritually healed from the disease of death. Jesus literally became the curse for us (Gal 3:13). We believe in His life, death, and resurrection for our salvation. We look to Him, we follow Him as our Lord, and God saves us! The serpent story points us to the cross.

Application: If you are not yet a follower of Jesus, please know that the only way to deal with your guilt, get rid of your shame, and be forgiven of all your wrongdoing is through the gospel. God has done all the work. We simply look to Jesus Who died for all of our sin, Who has risen from death, and Who now reigns as King. We turn from our wretched sin in repentance, and turn to our Lord Jesus in faith. If you are already are a believer but are losing a battle against sin, looking to Jesus is still the only way out. Pursue Jesus on a daily basis so that He becomes all the more compelling and sin becomes less appealing. The same way that we are saved from our sin is also the way we are sanctified despite our sin: the gospel. Grow deeply in the good news. Pray in its strength. Live according to its truth.

Conclusion idea

In the year 1666, the Great Fire of London wiped out the homes of 70,000 citizens. It is said that the fire's blaze was so hot that it incinerated everything - even on the outskirts of the city. Nothing remained that was recognizable. This fire is believed to have stopped the Black Plague, which lasted around 300 years, by killing off the diseased fleas, rats, and people that carried the plague. It took a greater death of fire to stop the death of the disease.

It has taken the greater death of Jesus Christ to overcome the death of sin. You will continue to struggle with sin, but the power of the cross of Jesus is far greater than the power of sin itself.

Sermon: The Prophet, Priest, and King of Miracles - Mark

Sermon: The Prophet, Priest, and King of Miracles - Mark

by Chip Dean

Scriptures: Mark 4Mark 2Mark 1

Connection to unit theme

Jesus' miracles signified His compassion for people, His power and authority, and His identity as the promised Messiah. Likewise, the miracles of Jesus show us how He is prophet, priest, and king over all creation. Jesus speaks authority, shows love, and exercises power in His multiple displays of miraculous works.

Introduction idea

Think of the best communicator you've ever heard - that person who wows you with their words, speaks straight to your heart, and convicts you with passion and sincerity. It might be a politician, a preacher, a professor, or a teacher. Now, think of the most loving person you've ever met – someone who makes everyone feel encouraged, who knows how to show love to all kids of people, and who naturally meets others' needs. It might be a grandparent, a Sunday School teacher, but probably not a politician. Now, think of the most powerful person that you know – a person with unbelievable strength who could put everyone else to shame in the gym. It might be an athlete, a body builder, or your husband. It's likely that you did not think of the same person for all three characteristics.

Jesus is the only person who has embodied all three of those characteristics perfectly and fully. Jesus lived with a phenomenal ability to speak, an incredible compassion for others, and a powerful authority about Him. Jesus' three characteristics are His offices of Prophet, Priest, and King. When we read about Jesus performing miracles in the gospels, we encounter awesome displays of these three offices.

I. Jesus performs miracles as Prophet (Mark 4:35-41)

After teaching several consecutive lessons, Jesus wanted to go to the other side of the lake. While the disciples were taking Him across on a boat, a huge storm raged and began to engulf the vessel. Jesus was napping below deck, so His disciples woke Him by calling him "Teacher!" He got up, spoke to the wind, commanded peace, and told it to be still. He then rebuked His disciples for their fear and lack of faith. They were amazed by His Words. Jesus performed this miracle as the prophet of God. Many prophets had come before Him, but none came with powerful words that could even make the wind obey.

Application: How do you respond to Jesus' words? When you hear a sermon or spend time personally in God's Word, do you obey? Will you be a prophet like Jesus and speak for Him?

II. Jesus performs miracles as Priest (Mark 2:1-12)

Jesus was such an amazing prophet that people would crowd into a small house to hear Him teach. Four men brought bring their paralytic friend to Jesus, but they couldn't get into the house. They went to the roof, removed part of it, and lowered him down to Jesus. Because of their faith, Jesus forgave the man of his sins. He explained that forgiving someone of their sins is a far greater act than healing them of paralysis. Jesus performed this miracle as the priest of God. Many priests had come before Him, but none came with the perfect compassion, the immaculate love, and the divine ability to forgive sins like Jesus. He looks on sinners with eyes of mercy and grants them His great grace.

Application: How do you respond to Jesus' love? When you experience His mercy and understand His forgiveness, does it compel you to extend mercy and forgiveness to others?

III. Jesus performs miracles as King (Mark 1:1-12)

Again we see Jesus operating in the role of prophet. While Jesus taught in the synagogue, in walked a demon-possessed man screaming questions at the Lord. Jesus simply told the demon to be quiet and leave the man's body. This demon that had overpowered the man left his body because of Jesus' far greater authority. Jesus performed this miracle as King. Many kings had come before Him, but none came with His divine power and authority.

Application: How do you respond to Jesus' authority? Do you worship Him as you witness His power? Do you obey Him as you submit to His authority? Do you operate in His power by resisting temptation, repenting of sin, and trusting in the gospel?

Conclusion idea

In that last story from Luke 11, we saw Jesus' three offices beautifully come together at one event. He prophetically spoke to the demon, had priestly mercy on the man, and authoritatively drove the demon out in a kingly way. However, we see Jesus as prophet, priest, and king mostly clearly in the gospel story. Jesus as Prophet taught truth throughout His life. Jesus as Priest extended mercy by dying on the cross for our sin. Jesus as King rose to life out of His powerful authority over death, sin, and the grave. He is our teacher, our lover, and our ruler. Our response to the gospel is to hear the Word our Great Prophet, receive the compassion of our Great Priest, and live faithfully for our Great King.

As we respond to God, this perspective of the gospel also changes how we respond to others. What should we do when something tragic happens in the lives of those around us? Because Jesus is Prophet, we proclaim to them the promises in God's Word. Because Jesus is Priest, we personally minister to those who hurt and provide for their needs however we can. Because Jesus is King, we show them the powerful authority Jesus has over their life and their need to worship Him. That is when we can watch God do miracles by creating new life by grace through faith.

Sermon: The Rival and Real Kingdoms - Daniel

Sermon: The Rival and Real Kingdoms - Daniel

by Chip Dean

Scriptures: Daniel

Connection to unit theme

As the kingdom arrived in power and authority to God's people through Jesus, the book of Daniel portrayed both the rival and real kingdoms of Jesus.

Introduction idea

We've all known a sports fanatic at some point in our lives. There is a huge difference between a fan and a fanatic. The fan follows and roots for a team. The fanatic centers their life on everything about the team. While the fan enjoys watching the games, the fanatic allows the outcome of the games to influence and determine his emotions and well-being. In fact, the fanatic allows a team to influence live in four main ways: king, culture, people, and place.

The king is the team's coach or best player – the object of greatest attention and affection. The culture includes conversations, attire, and even decorations that adorn the home and automobile. The people are the close friends and other fanatics with whom they share the team culture. The place is the stadium, restaurant, or home theater where they gather to watch the team perform. Which teams in your area have the craziest fanatics? Tell your audience about your funniest story involving a fanatic. Show a couple of pictures or a video clip of sports fanatics.

Everyone on earth is a fanatic of something or someone without even necessarily being aware of it. God actually made us this way. We all have a king we love to live for, a culture we enjoy living within, a people we love living with, and a place we love going to most. In fact, those four things fit together and become our kingdom. But God created us for Jesus' kingdom!

I. The rival kingdom (Dan. 1:1-21)

The theme of the book of Daniel is a kingdom. It is one of the most misinterpreted books of the whole Bible. Many people only talk about Daniel in terms of obscure prophecies and numerical codes. Some readers take the intense narratives of Daniel and minimize them into mere children's stories. The truth is that Daniel is a powerful book that points us straight to the true King, Jesus.

Daniel found himself in another kingdom along with God's people (1:1-7). Although forced to live there as a captive servant, Daniel found in Babylon a kingdom that offered beauty to behold, treasures to attain, and pleasures to enjoy. Daniel was one of the few men the Babylonians chose as the best-looking, brightest, and most brilliant of the Israelites. This elite group was offered the delicacies of the kingdom as well as the finest education of that day.

Daniel and his closest friends denied themselves those foreign delicacies in order to remain covenantally pure for their ultimate King, their Lord (1:8-21). Therefore, God showed favor to them and blessed them above the rest. They were found to be in far greater health, in much deeper wisdom, and in overall better standing than those who enjoyed the king's menu. Daniel's and his friends' obedience saved them through good-as-dead experiences. If not for the grace of God, he and his friends should have died in a fiery furnace together (Dan. 3), and Daniel should have torn to shreds by the mouths of ferocious lions (Dan. 4).

Application: Like Daniel, we find ourselves in the midst of another kingdom, the kingdom of this world. We are surrounded by the culture, people, and place of the world's king, Satan (2 Cor. 4:4). Every Christian must take a prayerful step back to contemplate how this worldly kingdom affecting our hearts. For which kingdom are you truly living: the kingdom of this world or the kingdom of heaven? Who is your true king? Who are your favorite people? What culture do you enjoy most? Where do you love to be? Those questions define which kingdom you claim as your own.

II. The real kingdom (Rev. 21:1-4)

The point of Daniel's story is not that we should "dare" to be like him, but that we should look to Jesus as Daniel's life points us to Him. Daniel remained covenantally faithful to God's laws through obedience. This ultimately led him to near-death experiences from which God saved him by grace. In a far better, more glorious, and perfect way, Jesus remained fully sinless and obedient His Father's laws, which ultimately led Him to His death for sin and resurrection for eternal life!

The real kingdom is ultimately all about the real King, Jesus Christ. Both heaven and earth will be renewed as they become Jesus' glorified kingdom for all eternity (21:1). The bride of Jesus (the church) is the unified citizenry of the real kingdom over whom Jesus will reign forever (21:2). The culture of the new kingdom will be a perfect, loving relationship between God and humanity for the rest of eternity along with extreme joy (21:3-4).

Application: It is time for all of us to do a heart check by asking ourselves this simple question: "Is Jesus my real King?" Do you listen to, love, look to, want to please, serve, and become like Jesus as your King? Do you enjoy His culture by living His ways, obeying His commands, and fulfilling His Word? Do you love his people by growing in community, meeting their needs, and ministering with them? Do you love His place by being faithful to your church and observing creation as His handiwork? Is Jesus' kingdom your kingdom?

Conclusion idea

Another way of putting all of this is, "Are you a fan or a fanatic?" A mere fan of Jesus likes to go to church, read an uplifting passage of Scripture, and even help a good friend. But a fanatic of Jesus centers life on His kingdom.

Sermon: God's Great Mystery Revealed

Sermon: God's Great Mystery Revealed

by Chip Dean

Scriptures: Genesis 1John 1:1-3

Connection to unit theme

The identity, the witness, the purpose, and the way of the King have come. Jesus is the King that has stepped into human history to turn the world right-side up. Many people may understand that He came to the earth as the King, but do they understand that He was prophesied to come since the very beginning? He is the great mystery that God revealed.

Introduction idea

Think of the storyline of a favorite movie or book that has a twist at the end. The next time you see or read that story, everything is different knowing the catch ahead of time. Relate that story passionately to your people. Tell them how you felt when the twist was revealed and what it was like to go back through the story knowing the truth. Would the storyline have been nearly as enjoyable without the hidden twist coming at the end? Of course not! There is a reason why we respond to stories like that.

God did something similar with the Old Testament storyline. He created and sovereignly directed a remarkable story that contained a veiled, key bit of information. Every plot, character, and event of His story, points God's people in some way to the coming incarnation of His Son, Jesus. We discover the twist in the New Testament, which helps make sense of the whole Old Testament's story. Let's look deeper at how the twist is unveiled.

I. The Old Testament is God's great mystery concealed (Gen. 1)

In churches today, we love to teach, preach, and debate creation. We often teach on what God created, preach how God created, and debate when God created. The question we must answer, then, is "Why?" The reason God created the universe is far more important than how or when. When we understand why, we will understand the other questions regarding creation even better.

When reading all of Genesis 1, one phrase you will find repeated is, "And God said..." God reminds us nine times in this chapter that He didn't blink, nod, or merely think creation into existence. Rather, God spoke His creation into existence. This is a huge truth to understand! Note also that we see God the Father speaking specifically, and we find God the Spirit (verse 2). But where is God the Son in this passage? Here is where it all comes together. God the Son is very present in this picture of creation, but He is God's mystery concealed for centuries.

Application: Do you get caught up in arguments, debates, and conversations that aren't essential to the gospel? The church today has turned off many unbelievers, skeptics, and atheists because we focus on matters that may be truthful but are not as important as essential gospel elements. Are Jesus, His life, death, resurrection, and lordship your ultimate agenda when in discussion with others? Or, do you tend to focus on other matters merely to win a debate?

II. The New Testament is God's great mystery revealed (John 1:1-3)

In the New Testament, God reveals His great mystery. It looks as if the apostle John opens his Old Testament scroll and writes with great excitement to reveal this secret to the churches. After all, God didn't just reveal this secret to John - He showed it to him. John reflects the wording of Genesis 1:1 when he writes, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1). Why did God speak everything into existence? He did so because He wanted to create everything through His Word. The Word is Jesus (John 1:14). God made everything through His Word and for His Word (John 1:3).

God's great mystery concealed for thousands of years is now proclaimed publicly, written down for all to know. God created the universe through and for Jesus. Everything in the Old Testament points to Jesus, because God planned that Jesus would receive the glory as all things find their fulfillment in Him. Jesus is not merely the reason God created, nor is He merely the means by which He created. Jesus is in every way the God who created, who was fully present in the creation of the world the Father designed for Him!

God's creation of the world through and for Jesus found its ultimate purpose in Jesus' sacrifice for "the sins of the whole world" (1 John 2:2). Jesus loved the world His Father created for Him to the extent that He stepped into this world to rescue us from sin (John 3:16). Jesus lived like one of us, His human creatures. He dwelt among us like God dwelt among His people in the Old Testament. Because everything was created for Him, Jesus was the appropriate sacrifice to die for the curse of sin that enveloped creation. He then rose from the dead so that the world might be saved through Him (John 3:17). We now await Jesus' return to reign over His new creation (Revelation 21:1-2).

Application: Do you live your life as one created specially for Jesus? Think about your agenda, your goals, your plans, your calendar, and your motives. Can you honestly say that you thrive on living for His glory and not your own? None of us do that perfectly! God has been gracious to us by sending Jesus to die for our sins of self-centeredness. God gives every Christian the opportunity to repent of that continual sin and grow in faith, recognizing Jesus' lordship and living for His glory. Consider areas of your life that you must submit to Jesus' fame and not your own. If you are not yet a believer, today is the day of salvation. Repent of your sins because Jesus died for them. Trust in Jesus because He rose from the dead and is the living Lord. Submit your life to Him!

Conclusion idea

God's concealed mystery may have been newly revealed to you today, or you may have come to a more clear understanding of it. Begin reading your Bible, especially the Old Testament, with the Jesus-secret uncovered.

Sermon: Drawing a Line for Sexual Purity - Proverbs 7

Sermon: Drawing a Line for Sexual Purity - Proverbs 7

Scriptures: Proverbs 7

Introduction

My last official responsibility as a Youth Minister involved taking a busload of senior-high students to Washington, D.C. for a leadership conference. We arrived a day early to take in some of the sights around our nation's capitol. After driving all night, we checked into our hotel. After changing clothes we got back on the bus to travel to Mt. Vernon. As we pulled out of the parking lot one of the students in the back of the bus hollered up to the front, "Rick, there's smoke coming out of our hotel." I looked back and sure enough there was smoke billowing out of the roof.. In my ever nonchalant-it-will-work-out-way, I said, "Oh, I'm sure it's nothing. Drive on, driver. We'll check it out when we get back."

When we came back to our hotel that afternoon, I discovered that it was something. A fire had broken out on one of the floors. We, along with all the people staying at the hotel, could not get back in for security reasons. So for the next four days we were not allowed back inside. Each night following the conference we, along with all the participants staying at the Hilton, would wait in the conference center for instructions as to where we would be staying that night. We stayed in a different hotel for four consecutive nights. (We did buy toiletries and underwear, in case you were wondering.)

One night we were booked into a hotel that was by far the nicest of them all - first class all the way. As usual it was approaching midnight by the time we arrived. I quickly found my room and got ready for bed. I had just settled in when there was a knock on the door. "Rick! Cindy!" several of the students screamed, "you've got to see this!"

"What?" I said, wondering what kind of accident had happened.

"Come look out our window!"

Our room faced the courtyard. Some of the students' rooms looked out over a street.

I walked across the hall and looked out the window. Across the street from this luxury hotel was a corner that prostitutes worked. A dozen prostitutes lined the street, dressed in their seductive and revealing clothes that were gaudy and tasteless, waving at cars. Many called out to the drivers that came by. Some got in.

"Look at the boots that one under the street light has on."

"I'll bet it took two cows to provide the leather for those."

"That one was only gone twenty minutes," remarked one of the teenage girls.

"Gross!" replied another.

I broke up the party, instructing the students to go to bed. Alone.

There is nothing new about what we witnessed that night. Prostitutes have plied their trade for thousands of years. The earliest written records of life in the Middle East mention prostitution a part of the culture. They feed on the loneliness, boredom, lust, and insecurity of their customers. The demand for their services does not wane.

It was a similar scene that Solomon viewed from the window of his home. A prostitute ventures out at dusk. She attires herself in seductive and revealing clothes to lure a man to her bed. A young man who lacks judgment and common sense walks down the street on this very night. He rounds the corner as the seductress spies him like a wild animal laying in wait for its next victim. She promises love, affection, and romance. Her talk is tantalizing and persuasive. Her dress is revealing and enticing.

Adrenaline and hormones race through the young man's system. In one cataclysmic moment the young man falls prey to her seductive words and body. He crosses the line. His life is forever changed, and not for the good.

Solomon does not tell this story so the Bible will get a PG-13 rating, but to instruct about sexual purity. They are clear and to the point. His words are filled with warning. His intent is for his readers to draw a line for sexual purity and not cross it.

I. Sexual purity begins with being a people of the Word (vv. 1-5)

What is Solomon talking about? What does he mean by my advice? My commands? My teachings? What are we to tie on our fingers? What are we to write deep within our hearts? The single answer to each question is God's Word.

The Psalmist posed a similar question, "How can a young man keep his way pure?" His conclusion: "By keeping Your word" (Psa. 119:9).

When Jesus prayed for the welfare of the disciples he was about to leave behind, he asked the Father to "Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth" (John 17:17). God's Word sanctifies us. It sets us apart from the rest of the world. It makes us holy, clean, consecrated for God's higher purposes. And in the sexual realm of life, it informs us that satisfaction and fulfillment comes in the context of marriage.

We live in a world that wants us to believe the opposite. Our culture bombards us with words, images, advertisements, movies, television, pictures that sex before marriage is fun, freeing, and fulfilling. It would be easy to get sucked into that lie, to be overwhelmed by culture's onslaught, if we were not people of the Word. God's Word sanctifies us and keeps our way pure.

We're all familiar with the saying "Garbage in, garbage out." I propose that the opposite is true, too: Purity in, purity out. David wrote of Scripture, "The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver refined in an earthen furnace, purified seven times" (Psa. 12:6). When I immerse my mind and heart in the flawless, purified words of God, the siren song of popular culture sounds like what it is: a hideous croak. If we hope to be sexually pure in the midst of a sex-orientated culture, we must replace the worldly thinking with God's thoughts, found in his word. His ideas of right and wrong, his promises, and his teachings must saturate our souls. Regular, consistent exposure to God's word is the only combatant to the alluring lies of our culture.

II. Sexual purity entails fleeing from tempting situations (vv. 6-9)

Solomon describes a scene. "At the window of my house I looked through my lattice. I saw among the inexperienced, I noticed among the youths, a young man lacking sense. Crossing the street near her corner, he strolled down the road to her house at twilight, in the evening, in the dark of the night" (Prov. 7:6-9). Solomon describes a young man that was at the wrong place, at the wrong time, in the wrong frame of mind. Solomon says he lacked common sense. The NIV says he lacked judgment. He knew where he was going and why. He was going into no-man's land. And that is dangerous territory.

A transport company placed a very important ad in a local newspaper that read: "WANTED: Conscientious and experienced truck driver to transport TNT across narrow mountain roads. Pay is very good."

Three brave drivers interviewed for the job. The foreman asked each of them this question: "When you turn a corner on tight mountain road, how close to the edge can you drive without slipping off?"

The first driver responded, "Oh, I've had years' experience at that! I can get as close as a foot from the edge."

The second applicant said, "I can hang the outside edge of my tire over the edge and still stay on the road."

The third man replied, "I respect the load and the danger. I would never get close enough to find out."

Guess who got the job?

Sex is like TNT. It is dangerous. Some people think they can play with it and not get hurt. Some people think they can walk right up to the line and have the will power to not cross over. Some people think they can handle this explosive, but they like the man in Solomon's story lack common sense and judgment.

Let's own up to it: There are certain things we cannot handle. And we should know where the line of sexual purity is and then back away from it. There are certain films, videos, and pictures in magazines that you and I cannot handle. There are certain television shows and late-night channels we have no business watching. There are certain websites we should avoid. There are certain times we should not even be on the computer. There are certain people who, by their stimulating conversations weaken us. There are certain clothes that should not be worn. There are certain rooms that one should never be in with the opposite sex.

There are settings too tempting, touches too personal, and liberties that are too much for us to handle. We are fools to play around with them. They create appealing temptations we simply cannot control.

Granted, we can't avoid all sexual stimuli, but in Martin Luther's terms, "You can't keep the birds from flying over your head, but you can keep them from making a nest in your hair." Or put another way, "If you are on a diet, don't go to the doughnut shop."

When it comes to sexual temptation the Bible is quite clear on the appropriate strategy. And that strategy is to run away. "Flee from sexual immorality" (1 Cor. 6:18). Don't debate it. Don't resist it. Don't see how close to the line you can come. Don't flirt with it. Run. Run fast. Run hard.

III. Sexual purity is strengthened by rehearsing the consequences. (vv. 21-23, 26-27)

Solomon minces no words. To cross the line into sexual impurity will cost you. It will not be a pretty picture.

Slaughter. Have you ever been to a slaughter house? It can make even the strongest of people lose their lunch.Trapped. Have you ever heard the desperate yelp of an animal caught in a trap knowing that death is imminent? It will cause you agony.Snare. Have you seen a bird caught in a web or net unable to free itself? It is a pitiful and tragic sight. Take anyone of those pictures and in similar ways is the consequence when one crosses the line into sexual immorality.

I met with a man who had been a leader in a Christian organization until he fell into immorality. I asked him, "What could have been done to prevent this?"

He paused for a moment, then said with haunting pain and precision, "If only I had really known, really thought through, what it would cost me and my family and my Lord, I honestly believe I never would have done it."

A law of physics says that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The same is true for sin. One does not sin in isolation. Sin not only affects the sinner, but the offended and others.

The next time you are tempted to cross the line, rehearse the possible consequences of your actions.

A. Physically

You may contract a sexually transmitted disease like gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes, or AIDS. And perhaps infecting your spouse or future spouse, even causing death. You may possibly cause pregnancy, with the personal and financial implications of a child.

B. Mentally

You will relieve the experience in your mind over and over again. It's often said the mind is like a computer. The one noticeable difference, however, is that a computer's memory can be erased. Whereas what you experience, especially sexually, is retained for life. Your mind keeps a permanent file of the input assimilated through the senses. Those memories and flashbacks could plague future intimacy with your spouse. And to add to your mental anguish, you will carry around the added torment of wondering do other people know what you have done.

C. Emotionally

You will venture down a path that may lead to addiction. Psychiatrists and therapists who work with various addictions say that sexual addictions are more powerful than alcohol and drug addictions with a lower successful transformation rate.

D. Personally

You may lose your self-respect. You may invoke shame and embarrassment upon yourself. You will create a form of guilt that is hard to shake. Even though God would forgive you, you may find it hard to forgive yourself.

F. Professionally

You may lose your job. You may forfeit your status. You may waste years of training and experience because of having to change careers due to impropriety and immorality.

G. Relationally

You will destroy your example and credibility with your family. You will lose the respect and trust of your spouse and family members. You may lose your spouse and your children forever. You may cause shame to your family.

H. Spiritually

You will grieve the Lord who redeemed you. You will drag his name in the mud.

Do you see why Solomon uses the examples of a slaughter house, a trap, and a snare?

Periodically reviewing and rehearsing the consequences cuts through the fog of rationalization and filling our hearts with the healthy, motivating fear of God.

In the preceding chapter Solomon asks some pointed questions, "Can a man embrace fire and his clothes not be burned? Can a man walk on coals without scorching his feet? So it is with the one who sleeps with another man's wife; no one who touches her will go unpunished" (Prov. 6:27-29). The warning has been issued: When you cross the line into sexual immorality there are certain and distinct consequences.

IV. Sexual purity continues as we guard our minds (vv. 24-25)

In Hebrew thought the heart was the center and seat of the emotions. The heart controlled the behavior and actions of a person. The heart is like the control tower of the life that directs the desires, thoughts, reasoning, intentions, and will of a person. The heart is like a switch house that receives freight cars loaded with moods, ideas, emotions, and convictions and puts them on the right track.

Elsewhere Solomon wrote, "For as he thinks within himself, so he is" (Prov. 23:7). Jesus said, "For from the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual immoralities . . ." (Matt. 15:19), and ". . . everyone who looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart" (Matt. 5:28). Regardless of outward behavior, the true test of sexual purity is our thought life. It is what we allow to enter our minds and what we choose to dwell on.

What we do is extremely important, of course. But what we think determines what we do. Consequently, the only effective and lasting way to change our behavior is to change our minds.

There's a large railroad switchyard in St. Louis. One switch that begins with just the thinnest piece of steel directs a train away from one main track and onto another. If you follow those two tracks, you'll find that one ends in San Francisco, the other in New York.

Our thought life, our mind, is a lot like that switch. The seemingly simple choice of what we set our minds on can determine the outcome of our sexual purity. Solomon wrote, "Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life" (Prov. 4: 23). The doorway to the mind is through the eyes and ears. They must be guarded. Remember the seductive lady in Solomon story. Her seduction was with what she wore and what she said. To guard our minds we must guard what we see and hear.

As a crew-cut Sunday schooler, I used to sing with gusto, "O be careful little feet where you go . . . little ears what you hear . . . little eyes what you see . . . little hands what you do." Little did I know then that so much about purity, especially sexual purity, would be about wrestling over what my eyes would see, what my ears would hear, where my feet would go, what my hands would do.

Conclusion

The line is for sexual purity. Will you draw your mark in the sand and determine to not cross over it?

The judge looked down from his bench and, in a somber voice, declared, "Mr. Wilson, this is your day of reckoning!" Then he sentenced the man to seven-and-a-half years in federal prison.

Wilson was one of four California men convicted of sexual misconduct and sentenced to prison in that particular case. Five men were originally investigated, but the fifth, Mark Jacobs, was not arrested and charged. Jacobs had been invited to join in the escapade by four friends. They had assured him that they would not get caught and that their plan was totally legal. Yet something inside him said it wasn't right.

The lawyers for the four convicted men pleaded with the judge that their clients had simply made mistakes of poor judgment. They loved their wives and their children, and gave to charities.

The judge agreed. "It is not hard to determine where the line is," he said. "The guy who drew the line is Mark Jacobs. He knew what was right and what was wrong, and he didn't hesitate. Hopefully, now we will have fewer people who are willing to walk up to the line and dabble with going over the line. We will have people like Mark Jacobs who wouldn't touch this thing with a 10-foot pole."

Will you draw the line? Will you determine not to cross the line of sexual purity? Will you make that commitment today? A commitment to your God, yourself, your family, your friends, your mate and your children?

*PROPHET EZEKIEL & EROTIC TOUCHING*

Prophet Ezekiel in his 23rd chapter wrote a graphic parabolic narration of how two sisters, Oholah and Oholibah (symbolic of Israel and Judah), allowed men to touch them in places they shouldn't have touched. God did not mince words when he named the act of allowing one's breasts to be fondled as "prostitution" and explicitly said that he was "disgusted" with such behavior in this shocking passage (Ezek. 23:3,18,19,21).

Bible Scholars explain, this passage actually speaks of "the elect people of Israel's figurative promiscuity in Egypt where they sought to be caressed by a foreign faith and culture" (in New International Dictionary of Old Testament Theology and Exegesis: Volume 4). They further brilliantly observe that, in this passage, the breasts fondled by illicit lovers of these young girls were being torn as part of God's judgment upon them (Refer to Ezek. 23:21,34).

I believe that even through this passage, God is teaching modern youth that he is pretty peeved when they get intimate with the opposite gender without the benefit of marriage. Have you grasped this truth for youth that emanates from Ezekiel 23? There were days you learnt truths only from elementary passages like Psalm 23 when you were a child. You aren't one anymore! You have grown up! Grow up to grasp this lesson that jumps out from Ezekiel 23!

Certain elders in your family may have told you this: "We don't know what will happen tomorrow or in the days to come when it comes to your relationship with this person. When this is the case, why do you have to become so close physically with him or her? What if something goes wrong and you actually do not marry this person you are physically intimate with?

Will you not feel bad? Would you not feel miserable? And those scars can stay with you for a lifetime and affect your marriage with someone else! So keep the opposite gender at an arm's length from you, dear!"

Guess what? There is a lot of practical wisdom in what they are concerned about. Not only that. There is Scriptural truth behind this counsel as well. Yes, the Bible in many places tells us we do not know what will happen to us in the future (James 4:14). So getting physically intimate with a person you know you can never be 100% sure of marrying, until the event has actually happened, is nothing but plain folly!

*SEXUAL TOUCH WITHOUT GOING ALL THE WAY & SCRIPTURE*
What would the Bible answer modern youth who are asking the question, "Can I kiss passionately without going further, my faithful boyfriend?" What would the Bible's reply be to youth who are asking, "How far is too far when it comes to boy-girl intimacy before marriage?" Can Jesus-loving girls sing with Barbie, "You can touch my hair and touch me everywhere?" Well, that is the question! Mark Littleton wrote, “How far is too far for you?
The Bible specifically says premarital sex is wrong (Hebrews 13:4; 1 Corinthians 6:9–10; and 1 Thessalonians 4:3–5). But what about kissing and other things?” He expressed a key Google Generation Believer’s question, very well. The authors of NIV Revolution, a Bible for Teen Guys put it this way: ‘Every guy who cares about Jesus and who also has red blood pumping through his veins faces the same question: “How far is too far?”’
You know what? Jesus, a normal red-blooded young man, touched women and allowed them to touch him. In fact, about one woman he said, "from the time I entered, she has not stopped kissing my feet" (Luke 7:45). Jesus took Jairus' young daughter by the hand (Mark 5:41). Before we punch the air to exclaim, "My Master touched the opposite sex and therefore I can have a whale of a time!" do notice in what situations he touched women.
It was in public places before the eyes of the several others. There was no secrecy about it. And nothing obscene about what he was doing. Period. So those fun-games we play in the church in front of each other which involve touching the opposite sex in an appropriate way would be cool in Christ's eyes.
But we must probe this matter a little deeper. "What about touching the opposite sex, in an intimate way?" – that's probably the question that hides at the back of your mind. In Scripture we do find the answer for this burning issue. Over the next few days we will find out what the Bible says about this burning issue.

What type of people do you associate with

I once met a very successful business woman and I asked her to share her secret with me.
She smiled and said to me..
I started succeeding when I started leaving small fights for small fighters.
I stopped fighting those who gossiped about me...
I stopped fighting over unnecessary issues with my spouse...
I stopped fighting for attention...
I stopped fighting to meet up with public expectation...
I left such fights for those who have nothing else to fight...

“And I started fighting for my vision, my dreams, my ideas and my destiny. Then I started winning big".
That was the day I gave up on small fights.
Some fights are not worth your time.
Fight to make your visions and dreams come alive!
Fight the good fight of faith!
Fight for your destiny not for your ego!
Entrepreneurs & successful people shouldn’t have time for unnecessary fights!
Visionaries don’t cluster their mind with nonsense bickering!
Always ask, what is this fight adding to my destiny, my goal, my progress?

Choose what you want & fight hard to meet your desires..........

IS THERE A COW IN YOUR LIFE THAT IS KEEPING YOU MISERABLE? 1Kings 19:21

IS THERE A COW IN YOUR LIFE THAT IS KEEPING YOU MISERABLE? 1Kings 19:21

Once upon a time,  in a faraway land, there lived a Chinese wise man and his disciple. One day during their travels, they saw a hut in the distance. As they approached it, they realized that it was occupied, in spite of its extremely poor appearance.

In that desolate place where there were no crops and no trees, a man lived with his wife, three young children and a thin, tired cow. Since they were hungry and thirsty, the wise man and his disciple stopped for a few hours and were well received.  At one point, the wise man asked:
“This is a very poor place, far away from anything. How do you survive?”
“You see that cow? That’s what keeps us going,” said the head of the family. “She gives us milk, some of it we drink and some we turn into cheese. When there is extra, we go into the city and exchange the milk and cheese for other types of food. That’s how we survive.”

The wise man thanked them for their hospitality and left. When he reached the first bend in the road, he said to his disciple:
“Go back, get the cow, take her to the cliff in front of us, and push her off.”
The disciple could not believe what he was hearing.
“I cannot do that, master! How can you be so ungrateful? The cow is all they have. If I throw it off the cliff, they will have no way of surviving. Without the cow, they will all die!”

The wise man, an elderly Chinese man, took a deep breath and repeated the order:“Go ahead. Push the cow off the cliff.”
Though outraged at what he was being asked to do, the disciple had to obey his master. He returned to the hut and quietly led the animal to the edge of the cliff and pushed. The cow fell down the cliff and died.

As the years passed by, remorse for what he had done never left the disciple. One spring day, the guilt became too much to bear and he left the wise man and returned to that little shack. He wanted to find out what had happened to that family, to help them out, apologize, or somehow make amends. Upon rounding a turn in the road, he could not believe what his eyes were showing him. In place of the poor shack, there was a beautiful house with trees all around, a swimming pool, several cars in the garage, a satellite dish, and more. Three good-looking teenagers and their parents were celebrating their first million dollars.

The heart of the disciple froze. What could have happened to the family? Without a doubt, they must have been starving to death and forced to sell their land and leave. At that moment, the disciple thought they must all be begging on the street corners of some city. He approached the house and asked a man that was passing by, about the whereabouts of the family that had lived there several years before.

“You are looking at it,” said the man, pointing to the people gathered around the barbecue. Unable to believe what he was hearing, the disciple walked through the gate and took a few steps closer to the pool where he recognized the man from several years before, only now he was strong and confident, the woman was happy, and the children were now good looking teenagers. He was dumbfounded, and went over to the man and asked:
“What happened? I was here with my teacher a few years ago and this was a miserable place. There was nothing. What did you do to improve your lives in such a short time?”

The man looked at the disciple, and replied with a smile:

“We had a cow that kept us alive. She was all we had. But one day she fell down the cliff and died. To survive, we had to start doing other things, develop skills we didn’t even know we had. And so, because we were forced to come up with new ways of doing things, we are now much better off than before.”

My question is, WHO OR WHAT IS THAT ‘COW’ IN YOUR LIFE THAT YOU NEED TO PUSH OFF THE CLIFF? Many a time, we have let our dependence on certain people, things or situation, create a comfort zone and limit us from achieving greater things. Personally, I am very ‘cautious’ in nature and it takes me a lot to let go and climb to another level. You may feel terrible at first, but in the end, it will all be worth it.

From the conversation in the end, the man says that they had to develop skills and do other things when their only ‘source of survival was dead’. At times we need to lose that job to realize that we can actually do well in business. Sometimes that business needs to fail, to realize that we can do well in other things. Sometimes a situation in our lives may have to fail for us to realize that we deserve and can get better.

Is there a cow in your life that is keeping you miserable? If so, push that cow down the cliff and please do not be tempted to go after it! 1Kings 19:21

*GENESIS AND PROVERBS ON SEXUAL BOUNDARIES*

When a pagan king saw, Isaac 'fondling' his wife Rebecca through the window, he shot a question: "Why did you not tell me that Rebecca was your wife, Isaac? Why did you instead say that she was just your sister?" Stop. Listen. There is a moral in this narrative.

A truth for youth is hidden in this story found in Genesis 26:1-9. It is this: even a disbelieving king knew instinctively that only a husband and wife can fondle each other – not just any couple! Even a pagan king instinctively knew that you could fondle only your wife – not anyone else of the opposite sex. When this is the case, it is quite sorrowful to note young people who are church-regulars also being casual sex regulars.

The Proverbs' penman's question to this generation of youth who have no qualms about exploring every inch of the body of the opposite sex is this straightforward: "Why embrace the breasts of another man's wife?" (Prov. 5:19). Just the previous verse in this passage makes out that the breasts of a young wife must be caressed only by her young husband (verse 18).

The problem with petting is this: you will want to get more and more intimate with the person of the opposite sex you are getting physical with. I haven't yet met a young man who told his girlfriend, "Girl, that kiss was awesome. However, from our next meeting onward we will just shake hands – okay!"

Even in the Bible I read about a young man who first "strolled" near a seductive woman's home; then he started to "smooch" her only to finally "sleep" with her (Prov. 7:8-23). Notice how he graduated from lesser forms of intimacy to greater forms. Our body is wired that way. The Bible calls him "a youth who lacked judgment" (Prov 7:7). And if we get physically intimate with the opposite sex, we too will earn that same name.  You don't want it – do you?

"If you cannot stop, don't start!" – that was a signboard  put up in a Brake Station. Relay that principle in the area of sexual intimacy and the message is crystal clear: if you want to stay a virgin and please the Lord, don't even start to be physically intimate with a person of the opposite sex! Be the Joseph who ran away from the woman who touched him the wrong way (Gen. 39:12).
